The mortal remains of a BSF trooper killed in Pakistani firing a day earlier in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reached his village in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district, an official said.

Thousands assembled to pay their last respects to Border Security Force trooper Satya Narayan Yadav, who was posted as an Additional Sub-Inspector with the BSF in Akhnoor sector.

He was killed in firing by the Pakistan Rangers in Pargwal sub-sector on Sunday.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Yadav, an official spokesperson said. He said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has spoken to Yadav's son and promised to visit him at the earliest.

An aunt of Yadav reportedly died of heart attack when she heard that he had been killed.

Angry villagers demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should "take revenge" against Pakistan over the frequent shelling and killing of Indian soldiers.
