The information and broadcasting ministry has cancelled the multi-system operator (MSO) licence given to city-based Kal Cables Pvt. Ltd.

The company is one of the 17 MSOs whose licence was cancelled by the central government Aug 20.

An MSO is an operator of multiple cable or direct-broadcast satellite TV systems.

According to the ministry, the licence to Kal Cables was cancelled as the home ministry denied security clearance to the company.

The company was given licence to operate in Chennai in 2012 and a provisional licence to operate in other parts of Tamil Nadu in 2013.

The company has approached the Madras High Court to quash the central government order.
