The central government on Wednesday informed that it would cost Rs.98,000 crore for constructing a 505-km-long bullet train line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

According to Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, the cost estimates were revealed by a joint project feasibility study which was co-financed by the Indian Railways and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"The government of Japan has given an assistance package proposal for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed corridor involving technical, operation and maintenance (O&M) and financial assistance to the tune of 81 percent of project cost met through loan," Sinha said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

"The interest and other terms have not been finalised. No other country has offered such support for the project."
