Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae on Saturday said that they are trying to find out exact number of casualties following a massive earthquake that struck Nepal this morning.

"The old towns in the Kathmandu Valley have been affected in the earthquake," Rae told IANS over phone.

India on Saturday sent two plane loads of relief material and rescue personnel to Nepal.

The Indian defence ministry said that two C-130 J took off from the Hindon airbase. The planes carried 45 rescue personnel and some sniffer dogs to help in rescue operations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also asked for medical teams from India to be sent to Nepal.
