Osaka cruises past Goerges into China Open last 8

Japan's Naomi Osaka eased past Germany's Julia Goerges in straight sets on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the China Open in Beijing.

Osaka, the reigning US Open champion, crushed the 10th-seeded German 6-1, 6-2, reports Efe news.

After a slow start, during which Osaka saved a break point and exchanged several deuce points with Goerges, the Japanese player raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set.

The second was similarly challenging for the German, who was never able to trouble the world number six.

Osaka moves on to the quarterfinals, where she will face either Angelique Kerber or Shuai Zhang.
