The Singapore Jewellery and Gem Fair kicked off on Thursday with more than 100,000 pieces of fine jewellery by many reputable international exhibitors.

For the first time, the exhibition has set up a special zone to showcase Singapore's jewellery heritage to celebrate the country's Golden Jubilee, reports Xinhua news agency.

The four-day fair presents fine jewellery in 10 product-themed and country pavilions.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the beauty of jewellery from Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore among others.

One of the highlights of the fair is the largest matched pair of rare fancy vivid yellow diamonds traced from Australia's argyle mine.

Named "Golden Light of Argyle", the two accompanying diamonds were polished from a gem-quality 15.40 carat rough diamond mined in 2012, with an estimated price of $1.08 million.
