A school sweeper, who was suspended for not doing his job well enough, Wednesday allegedly opened fire inside the school premises in Meerut, killing the school manager and injuring the principal, police said.
The incident took place at the Chandrashekhar Azad Higher Secondary School in the Sardhana area.
The sweeper, Santosh Kumar, and his son Vipin barged into the school campus and opened fire. Santosh was suspended from his job on Tuesday.
Before anyone could understand what was happening, the duo opened fire, killing manager Suraj Bali on the spot and seriously wounding principal Saranveer Singh.
The duo then fled the scene.
The school was in session when the incident took place, an officer said. No one else was hurt in the shooting.
The injured principal was admitted in a hospital. His condition is said to be serious but out of danger. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits, police said.
