Tokyo shares opened the trading on Thursday sharply higher on a stronger US dollar after the US Federal Reserve raised the world's top economy's interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 410.88 points, or 2.16 percent, from Wednesday to 19,460.79, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 30.97 points, or 2.01 percent, higher to 1,571.69.
