Two held with 50 gold biscuits near Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) Thursday seized 50 gold biscuits valued at over Rs.1.6 crore and arrested two smugglers from a border outpost in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, officials said.

In a special operation, troops of the 152nd battalion, intercepted a motorcycle at the Amudia outpost, in which the two smugglers were heading towards the Bangladesh border.

During a search, 50 gold biscuits weighing 5.8 kg and valued at over Rs.1.63 crore were recovered from their possession.

The smugglers - identified as Milan Mandal and Kumaresh Mandal - are residents of Swaroopnagar in the district.

The BSF has seized nearly 55 kg of gold valued at Rs.15.6 crore and apprehended 32 smugglers near the south Bengal frontier in the last six months.
