UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday renewed his concern about the prolonged election process for Haiti's new president.

In a statement released by his spokesman here, Ban urged the Haitian authorities and other political actors to resolve their outstanding issues and conclude the election process "as soon as possible, in a transparent, inclusive and credible manner".

Haiti is yet to finalise presidential elections, which began with voting on October 25, 2015. The UN Secretary-General has been concerned about political instability due to the uncertainty of the election process, after the results of the initial vote were published in December, Xinhua news agency reported.

A runoff, which was set to take place on December 27, did not take place as scheduled, which has prompted Ban's Special Representative in Haiti, Sandra Honore, to urge all parties to ensure a peaceful transfer of power to a newly elected president by February 7.
