The UN mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) Wednesday announced the arrest of Chadian rebel leader Mahamat Abdul Kadre by its forces, the organisation's spokesman told reporters here.
"The rebel (leader) was on the CAR authorities' wanted list since May 2014," Xinhua quoted UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric as saying at a daily news briefing here.
"This is the latest in a series of actions that the mission is undertaking using its Urgent Temporary Measures mandate to perform basic police functions in support of CAR authorities' to fight against impunity," he added.
Recent major arrests include anti-Balaka leaders called "Chocolat" and John "American", the spokesman said.
"Following the arrest of the latter in Bambari, 88 of his fighters have also surrendered."
MINUSCA began operations in September 2014, to give protection to civilians and the facilitation of a political process.
