Understand values of Indian polity, Speaker tells bureaucrats

New Delhi, April 22 (IANS) Civil servants should understand the philosophy, values and principles of India's democratic polity, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Monday said.

"You should understand the philosophy, values and principles of the democratic polity in which we live. What binds our nation together is the enduring strength of our Constitution.

"Parliament is the cornerstone of our democracy reflecting the diverse interests of our populace," the speaker told Indian Administrative Service probationers who are attending a course on Parliamentary Practice and Procedures here.

Probationers of the Royal Bhutan Civil Service are also attending the course.
