West Bengal CPI Secretary Prabodh Panda passes away

Former and State Secretary of the (CPI) died of on Tuesday at his residence, said party sources.

Panda, 72, was born in a peasant family in West Bengal's district. He was the of the All India Kisan Sabha.

The veteran leader, also a three-time from Midnapore, was first elected to the in a by-election in 2001. He was re-elected in 2004 and 2009.

Panda was a long time member of the CPI national council and significantly contributed in formulating the policies on water conservation and management as convenor of the parliamentary forum on the subject.

CPI has condoled his death.
