With Prof K V Thomas the new deputy food minister, foodies across the country have something to look forward to. In his earlier avataar as Kerala’s tourism minister, Thomas played a big role in promoting ethnic Kerala cuisine and, in his new role, he plans to extend this to other states.
To begin with, the minister has ordered the setting up of a Kerala cuisine food outlet in the capital’s Krishi Bhawan — sea food and coconut water at affordable prices, is the mantra. His rivals are neither impressed nor surprised. According to them, he owes his rise in politics to his practice of gifting fish to the residents of 10 Janpath. Thomas, for his part, doesn’t think he has done anything wrong, “It is a custom in our community to gift fish to our well-wishers.”
