Lacking consonance

At the 1st International Agrobiodiversity Congress held in Delhi, Founder Chairman of seed firm Mahyco Ltd and noted agrarian B R Barwale was honoured for being among the past Indian recipients of the World Food Prize. Ironically, the central government is locked in a legal battle with Mahyco’s joint venture partner Mahyco Monsanto Biotech Ltd in various courts of India and also in the Competition Commission of India over allegations of malpractices, misleading claims on licence fees and patents etc. Past winners include M S Swaminathan and Green Revolution hero Gurdev Khush.
