Letters: Not so great UID

This refers to Saurabh Sharma’s letter “What a UID” (November 2).
Though I appreciate the author’s patriotism, I would like to request him to check with the UID authority that out of the so-called 110 million people, how many have been issued Aadhaar numbers? I have been reading regular complaints about not receiving Aadhaar numbers from readers in many newspapers. In my case, too, we had registered for the numbers on 24 May, 2011 and according to the UID website, our registration was approved on August 31! Till now, we have not received any communication from the Unique Identification Authority of India on the issuance of our numbers. Moreover, our registration status on the website says the print letter was generated as on September 28, 2011, more than a month ago. But nobody knows where it is held up. In this age of fast communication, how can one condone such delays? When we boast of approving the maximum number of registrations, is it not the duty of the authority to take the approval to its logical end by issuing Aadhaar numbers to registrants?
