‘Labour scarce in textile units’ (September 1) shows the effects of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) on getting manpower for textile units. The purpose of NREGA is not to divert productive labour from industries to government dole schemes. NREGA should provide work to those who need it but this cannot come at the cost of industry.
