Letters: Where is 'incredible' India?

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to the report "Visa-on-arrival: Travel companies tourists doubling" (February 7). This is good news for the travel companies but the frequent reports of tourists being harassed, molested or even raped do not augur well for the country's tourism industry. Many countries including the UK have issued travel advisories to their citizens on the need to be careful when visiting India. They have done this because of the frequent reports of incidents of misbehaviour with female travellers. These reports receive extensive coverage in the western press and are contributing to the negative image of our nation. This does not bode well for India's tourism and is contrary to the claims about India being "Incredible" with its many connotations. We need to focus on clean and hygienic tourist-friendly spots to make our destinations inviting.
