Understanding officialese

The bureaucratic English the government uses may be incomprehensible for some but it appears that the government’s communication skills don’t improve in Hindi either. At a press conference to announce a committee report on Air India, Hindi-language journalists requested Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to read the announcement in Hindi. Singh duly obliged, reading out the release in full. Then he added, “Yeh mujhe samajh nahi aaya. Ye sarkari Hindi hain” (I didn’t understand this, this is government Hindi)!”
