Opposition Left Front members today briefly walked out of the West Bengal Assembly in protest against the Chair's refusal to admit an adjournment motion on hike in prices of essential commodities.

Speaker Biman Banerjee refused to accept the adjournment motion moved by the RSP member Subhas Naskar.

Following this, LF members shouted slogans and waved placards condemning the price hike and criticising the government's alleged failure to contain it, before walking out of the House.

Congress member Asit Mitra also moved an adjournment motion on the same issue, which met a similar fate.

Later, speaking on the issue during mention hour, CPI(M) member Anisur Rahaman criticised the state government for allegedly failing to contain the price hike of essential commodities.

The price of potato, onion and salt had increased manifold, but the state government was yet to bring the situation under control, he alleged.

The Speaker asked Rahaman to provide specific evidence on his allegation.

The treasury bench accused the opposition of playing politics and spreading rumours on the issue.
