Ruling BJP receives major setback in local body elections in Chhattisgarh

Madhu, who polled more than 36,000 votes in her kitty, created history to become the first eunuch to get elected as Mayor in Chhattisgarh

Raigarh, which is emerging as the hottest and preferred investment destination across the country, today elected eunuch as its "first citizen" and created history in Chhattisgarh. Madhu Kinnar, the 35-year-old independent candidate, defeated her nearest Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mahavir Guru by a margin of 4,537 votes. Congress bagged the third position.

Madhu, who polled more than 36,000 votes in her kitty, created history to become the first eunuch to get elected as Mayor in Chhattisgarh. She would head the municipal corporation in Raigarh that had emerged as top investment destination across the country.

The Adani group had recently acquired a power plant in the district that is also a major producer of steel and iron ore besides holding a major coal reserve. Many renowned corporate are investing in Raigarh.
