"Live 100 Hospital has become the first hospital in the world to achieve 100 per cent success rate in treating advanced Avascular Necrosis of the hip, a disease resulting from temporary or permanent loss of the blood supply to bones," hospital chairman Dr H N Nagaraj told reporters here.
The disease would result in complete disability of the leg requiring hip surgery to improve the condition, he said, adding, stem cell therapy would obviate the need for it.
Avascular Necrosis is a disease resulting from temporary or permanent loss of blood supply to the bones. The common cause for lack of blood supply to the bones is excessive usage of steroids, Nagaraj said.
Stem cell therapy is a very simple and painless process for curing Avascular Necrosis of the hip, Nagaraj said.
Transplanted stem cells can restore hip joint function lost due to damage of cartilage, Nagaraj said. "The stems cells also facilitate the repair of bone cells. Stem cells have the ability to differentiate between bone and cartilage cells," he added.
