1 held for transporting illicit liquor, after chase

The driver of an SUV which was carrying illicit liquor was caught after a chase by nine Delhi Police PCR vans in the heart of the national capital early today.

The chase began around 3 am from Vijay Chowk area and culminated near Lady Harding Medical College, Panchkuian Road, where the Tata Sumo was intercepted and its driver Satish Kumar (26) was arrested.

A case under sections of Delhi Excise Act has been registered at Mandir Marg Police Station although the owner of the illicit liquor is yet to be arrested.

"The PCR staff noticed that the suspected vehicle hit another private car near North Fountain which was driven by an official of Excise department, GNCT of Delhi," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Operations) Ranveer Singh.
 

The PCR staff immediately flashed a message and started chasing the offending vehicle. Other PCR Vans deployed in the adjoining areas were also alerted and were directed to intercept the vehicle. The driver of offending vehicle tried to flee but he was overpowered near Lady Harding Medical College, Pachkuian Road, he added.

On conducting a search of the vehicle, 42 cartons of illicit liquor were recovered.
