Police say at least 12 people were killed and another 30 injured when a bus carrying fans of the Ecuadorean soccer team Barcelona SC overturned on a highway after a game.
The accident took place Sunday afternoon when the fans were returning to their home city of Guayaquil following a draw against a team from nearby Cuenca Police are still investigating, but some eyewitnesses told local media that the bus was seen trying to overtake other vehicles shortly before the crash.
The soccer team has decided to honour the dead with a memorial service at its home stadium.
