13 engineering students arrested for beating junior

Thirteen engineering students have been arrested for allegedly beating up their junior during a volleyball match in Murshidabad district, police have said.

The incident happened on Saturday night when Sudeb Pal (20), a second year student of the Nivedita Institute of Technology, entered into an argument with some third year students over a volleyball game, they said.

The volleyball match was held on Friday in which the third-year students lost to the second-year team resulting into an altercation.

Thirteen engineering students were arrested yesterday in this connection.

Police have started a suo motu investigation in the matter. Sudeb is currently under treatment at a private hospital here.
