16 held for trespassing forest guest house in Lansdowne

Sixteen people, including a Delhi-based industrialist, were arrested for entering a forest guest house with arms and ammunition on new year's eve without permission at Lansdowne in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, police said today.

Industrialist Samir Thapar was among the group which was found trespassing and occupying suites and rooms at the Kolhuchaur forest guest house without proper documents and permission, and putting up tents in the premises, Pauri Garhwal SP Mokhtar Mohsin said.

The group has been booked under the Arms Act, Excise Act, along with charges of trespassing for entering the forest area with unlicensed arms and ammunition and large quantity of liquor, he said.
 

Items recovered from them included a .300 bore rifle with 23 live cartridges, a .375 bore rifle with 15 live cartridges, a telescope, 171 liquor bottles of different brands, cooked and uncooked meat besides eight vehicles, he said.
