1994 triple murder case: CBI allowed to give evidence

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar allowed CBI to bring secondary evidence by way of four affidavits which were earlier filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1994.

"This court permits the prosecution to lead secondary evidence in the form available under provisions of the Indian Evidence Act.

"It is made clear that senior public prosecutor has to keep in mind that in order to prove contents of the affidavits, the person to be examined in relation to the affidavits must be the one who has read their or its contents and understood the same," the court said.

The case pertains to alleged involvement of Sumedh Singh Saini, the then SSP of Ludhiana, in the kidnapping and murder of three persons Vinod Kumar, Ashok Kumar and their driver Mukhtiar Singh in 1994 in Ludhiana.

The three victims were murdered allegedly at the behest of Saini who had hatched a conspiracy in connivance with other accused cops Sukhmohinder Singh Sandhu, Paramjit Singh and Balbir Tiwari. (more) PTI SKV AKI
