2 arrested with poppy straw

Two persons were arrested for allegedly smuggling poppy straw and 10 Kg of such material was recovered from their possession in the Rajouri district, police said today.

The duo, who were travelling in a private vehicle from Shopian in Kashmir to Rajouri, were arrested in the Thannamandi area of the Rajouri district, yesterday, a police official said.

He said that during the search of a vehicle, poppy straw packed in two bags weighing five Kg each was recovered from the possession of the duo.

The accused identified as Mohammed Ashraf and Showkat Ali were arrested from the spot and booked under various sections of the NDPS Act, he said.
 

Investigations have been initiated into the case, he said.
