Two men have been arrested for planning to kill an elderly couple and rob them in central Delhi, the police said today.
The police claimed that the accused also wanted to kill the witness of a murder case who had refused to change his statement.
During investigation, it was found that one Pawan, currently lodged in Rohini Jail in connection with a double murder in Rajendra Nagar, had worked as a driver for four to five years in central Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said.
While working as a driver, he had spotted a financially well-off elderly couple. In jail, he came in contact with Ombir Singh, Paramjeet and Golu, and shared the information with them, the officer said.
After Ombir Singh was released from jail on parole, Pawan deployed his brother-in- law Jagdish Kumar, who was working as a driver in the same area to find out the present position of the elderly couple, he said.
Kumar did a recce of the couple's house and informed Pawan that they were still residing there. Pawan and Singh passed on the information to Paramjeet, the DCP said.
On June 6, Singh was released on parole. On June 9, Paramjeet came to Delhi and stayed at Kumar's house, and the next day they surveyed the house of the elderly couple, the officer said, adding Singh had planned to commit the crime in the early hours June 13.
However before they could execute their plan Singh and Kumar were nabbed by officials of the Special Cell on June 12, the DCP said.
