Police today arrested two close aides of a key leader of a Meghalaya insurgent outfit HNLC in Mukundapur area in the city.

"Albert Jyrwa alias Albert Jaroa and Amar Sinha, members of the terrorist outfit HNLC and wanted in a case under Rynjah police station in Meghalaya, have been arrested here," Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Task Force, C Tripurari said.

The duo were close aides of Phyranilang Swer alias Pastor, an area commander of the separatist Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), he said.

Swer was arrested early last month in the same area of the city.

Meghalaya police consider both Jyrwa and Sinha as prized catches after they were charged with aiding and abetting the rebel outfit, Tripurari said, adding that a Meghalaya Police team would soon arrive here to take the two in its custody.

The Khasi outfit is fighting for a sovereign Hynniewtrep homeland in the eastern part of Meghalaya and stages hit-and-run operations from hideouts.
