Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths have seized 18 kgs of opium from Jalore district and arrested two drug smugglers active on Rajasthan-Gujarat border area.

"Acting on a tip-off that the duo would be coming to Jalore with opium, we mounted surveillance on Raniwara Road near Lachhari village in Jalore district and arrested them last night," said Zonal Director of NCB Neha Champawat.

"They were travelling a Maruti Swift car and the contraband was hidden in the LPG tank of the car," she said.

The smugglers -- Kanhaiya Lal Patidar and Moti Lal Patidar -- were residents of Pratapgarh district. Both of them had been active in drug smuggling on the Gujarat border for quite a long time and were on the radar of the NCB.

Champawat said the opium was bought from Mandsore in Madhya Pradesh and was being supplied to Sanchore region of Jalore district.

The haul comes a week after the bureau seized 50 kg opium from Kankani village near Jodhpur and arrested one person.
