23,000 commission agents register with online payment system

As many as 23,000 commission agents (Arthiyas) working in wholesale foodgrain markets (kisan mandis) of the state have got themselves registered with online payment system - Farmer-Arthiyas Information and Remittance Online Network, the state government said today.

An official spokesperson said, payment to commission agents is being made through 'Rupee Debit Cards' for withdrawal purposes.

Online payment of Arthiyas was started last year on trial basis through Pungrain, Punjab government's nodal agency for procurement of foodgains, he said.

11 banks are presently empanelled for providing this online payment to Arthiyas and seven banks have already installed 1,750 Swipe Machines in the procurement centres of Punjab, he added.
