Twenty nine candidates are left in fray for the February 13 by-election to Srirangam Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.
Out of the 34 candidates who had filed nominations, five independents withdrew from the contest today, the last day for withdrawal of nomination, election authorities said today.
The by-election was necessitated to fill the vacancy caused by the disqualification of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa following her conviction in a corruption case.

AIADMK has fielded S Valarmathi while the DMK has N Anand, who unsuccessfully contested against Jayalalithaa in 2011.
M Subramaniam of BJP and K Annadurai of CPI(M) are among the 29 candidates in fray.
Polling will be held on February 13 and counting will be on February 16.
