A total of 29 cases of violence against government doctors have been recorded in Assam in the last five years, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary told the Assembly on Monday.
He was replying on behalf of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, to a question raised by BJP member Numal Momin.
" A total of 52 people have been arrested, chargesheets submitted in 14 cases, five cases returned in the final report, while investigation is pending in 10 cases," Patowary said.
Necessary security measures such as establishing police pickets and conducting patrolling be undertaken to avert attacks on the doctors, the minister said.
"Officers at the police stations and outposts have been instructed by the district SPs to keep a watch on government hospitals, besides holding awareness rallies to prevent cases of attacks on doctors," Patowary said.
