3 Indians among 4 arrested for smuggling hashish in Nepal

Three Indians, including a woman, were among four suspected drug smugglers arrested for smuggling 40 kg hashish from central Nepal's Dhading district, police said today.

Three men and a woman carrying bags filled with the contraband were standing in a suspicious manner at Simle Bazaar of Bhumesthan Village in the district when security personnel chased them last night.

68 pieces of hashish and Indian Rs 1,61,200 were recovered from their possession during the checking, a senior police officer said today.

They are identified as 20-year-old Akalesh Kumar Bhagat, 18-year-old Santosh Paswan, 28-year-old Madhu Giri aka Bitu - all of them from Bihar - and 34-year-old Shambhu Rijal of Bhumesthan, Dhading.
 

The four were presented before the District Court, Dhading today and remanded in judicial custody for further investigation, police said.

A patrolling team has been deployed along the highway after receiving information that smuggling of marijuana and hashish increased at recent time in the area, the officer added.
