At least 40 students were rescued today when a private school bus fell into the swollen Palki river in Bhilwara district here, police said.

The incident occurred this morning when the bus was on its way to the senior secondary school in Bijolia.

The driver drove over the inundated bridge and due to heavy water flow the bus plunged into the river, SHO (Bijolia) Panchu Ram said.

People present in the area came in the rescue of children, he said.

"There were around 40 children including both girls and boys in the age group of 10-15 years. All the children are safe now," he said, adding a case has been registered against the bus driver.
