49 persons, including landlords, have been booked for alleged non-verification of tenants and some residents were arrested for being unable to furnish police verification documents.

According to police, a special Tenant Verification Drive was launched in South-East District on July 1 to strengthen security for the forthcoming festive season and Independence Day.

"During door-to-door checking, some of the tenants were found residing without police verification. Neither they, nor their property owners have bothered to furnish details of tenants to the police.

"Since July 1, 49 such cases have been registered against errant property owners and the tenants have been arrested," Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Gaurav Sharma said.

This move will act as a deterrent for other property owners as well as tenants and will boost strict compliance of tenancy regulation and verification, he said.
