Five people have died in Nodakhali in South 24 Parganas district in last three days allegedly after consuming illicit liquor, officials said.
Local MLA Ashok Deb and Zilla Parishad health officer Dr Tarun Roy said while one person died today, four other deaths have been reported since January 2.
The deaths were reported from Kasipur and Alampur localities of Nodakhali area, they said.
According to a police officer, three persons were reported ill after consuming the hooch at the joint of Muzibar Rehman Seikh on January 2.
Seikh is absconding, the officer added.
