Fifty-six Border Security Force officials have been awarded President's police medals, including three for gallantry, on the eve of 67th Independence Day today.
The awardees for distinguished service medal include DIG Vikash Chandra who had played an important role in the raising of the VIP protection unit of the elite 'black cat' commandos force NSG in 1984.
Chandra's unit was also instrumental in eliminating about 24 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir during 2000-2003.
Three troopers - Deputy Commandant Arun Kumar and constables Kamlesh Kumar and Satyaveer Singh - were awarded the Presidents' police medal for gallantry for conducting a dare-devil anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh's Kanker last year in April.
