63 nominations found valid for first 2 poll phases in Bengal

A total of 63 nominations was found to be valid for the first two phases of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, a poll panel official said on Wednesday.
In the first phase of polling on April 11, altogether 18 nominations were found valid, including 11 for Coochbehar (SC) and seven for Alipurduar (ST), Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Sanjay Basu, said.
For the second phase on April 18, 12 nominations were found to be valid for the Jalpaiguri (SC) seat, 19 for Darjeeling and 14 for Raigunj, he said.
Regarding seizures, Basu said the Income Tax Department has seized precious metals, including gold and silver, estimated to be worth Rs 9.74 crore.
It has also recovered unaacounted cash amounting to Rs 10.35 crore, besides nearly 49,000 litres of illicit liquor and 22,386 litres of country spirit, the Additional CEO said.
