68 lakh new jobs in last five years, claims Bengal government

The Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal today claimed that it had created 68 lakh jobs in its first five-year term.

State finance minister Amit Mitra told the Assembly that the total number of jobs created in the state stood at 68,00,912.

New government jobs amounted to 3,96,143, out of which school teachers (primary and secondary) accounted for 56,696.

Mitra said in the organised sector 35.83 lakh jobs were created including large industry, SMES, IT, shops, cooperatives and self-employed.

In the unorganised sector total new jobs created were 28.21 lakh which are in sectors like real estate, house-keeping, fishing, khadi and infrastructure.
 

Mitra said total tax collection in the last fiscal was Rs 26,050 crore.
