Police have booked seven persons, including two NRIs, on alleged charges of kidnapping, extortion, criminal conspiracy on a complaint of an NRI, who alleged that they had extorted from him Rs 25 lakh by threatening to kill him.
On a complaint of Kenya-based NRI Gurmit Singh, police registered a case last night against these seven persons under Sections 364 (kidnapping in order to murder), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 120-B(criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Sections 25-27,54,59 of Arms Act.
The complainant said that he did business of cars in Kenya. Residents of Amritsar, Navdeep and Gurmit, who also lived in Kenya, were his old acquaintances, police said.

He alleged that both called him on July 11 this year for discussing the matter of jointly buying a garden, they said.
He alleged that the duo made him captive in a room and started beating him, demanding Rs one crore for his release, police said.
They threatened to kill him if he did not cough out the amount, he told police.
He then struck a deal of giving them Rs 25 lakh and informed his family in Phagwara to give the amount to their accomplices.
The duo sent their men to his Phagwara house on July 13 who got Rs 25 lakh cash from his family and then he was thrown in front of Nairobi West hospital in critically injured condition, he alleged.
The complainant remained in the hospital till July 21 and after coming out of the hospital, he lodged a complaint with police and also reported the matter to Indian High Commissioner there, he said.
Then he came to India and lodged a complaint with Kapurthala SSP Rajinder Singh after which Satnampura police booked the seven accused, including Navdeep Singh and Gurmit Singh, both from Amritsar.
The accused will be arrested soon, investigating officer sub-inspector Harjinder Singh said.
