He took charge of the division, considered as one of the busiest in the country in terms of passenger volume, from Ashwini Lohani.

Sachan was the chief engineer (construction) on Western and Central Railway and executed many projects in over-crowded Mumbai suburban section, a railway statement said.

He was also in-charge of creation of a new terminal station building at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Central Railway in Mumbai.
