Questioning whether Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh should be allowed to continue after he "disrespected" the national anthem, state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury today wrote a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee stating that its criticism is a "direct assault" on the country's constitution.
"Any person who shows utter disrespect to our national anthem as well as to the Constitution of India should not be allowed to continue to hold the highly acclaimed post of the governor of a state in this country," Chowdhury said in the letter.
"The honorable governor's criticism is a direct affront to the constitution and assault to the national sentiment," he alleged.
"Therefore, I would like to impress upon your decision whether a person... Who intentionally showed disrespect to our national anthem and constitution should be allowed to continue to officiate as a governor of state in India," Chowdhury said.
