A ruling Akali village head and a panchayat member escaped unhurt as three persons opened fire on them at Buttar Kalan village, police said today.

Sarpanch Jaswinder Singh and panchayat member Gurprem Singh were fired at by the miscreants and took away arms and several cartridges from sarpanch's car after breaking the window panes last night before fleeing the spot, police said.

A case has been registered in this connection and police have identified the two accused.

The victims were leaving the village when the accused arrived in a car and fired at them, police said.
