At an orientation programme of newly-elected legislators, he said the state Assembly and the Legislative Council should have serious and detailed debate on various issues, especially on measures for development of the state and people's welfare.

Legislature was an important forum to redress public grievances, he said.

The chief minister also said that the legislators should have good knowledge of Parliamentary rules for a disciplined discussion in the house.

He said that during Session of the House MLAs should remain present in maximum numbers and raise issues of their areas and help find their solution.

Akhilesh said most of his party MLAs were young and have been elected to the Vidhan Sabha for the first time.

He said that he himself was getting a chance to sit in the Legislative Council for the first time.
