Maulavis should be allowed in state jails to help inmates offer 'tarabi namaz', a Congress MLA demanded in the Maharashtra Assembly today.
Asif Shaikh, who represents the Malegaon assembly constituency in north Maharashtra, said presence of a Maulavis is mandatory for offering such type of 'namaz'.
Tarabi namaz is offered in the evening during Ramazan.
Raising the issue through a point of propriety, Shaikh said as per present norms, a place is made available to inmates within the jail for offering 'namaz'.
However, there is no provision and arrangement for offering 'tarabi namaz', the Congress MLA said.
