The Calcutta High Court today directed the commissioner of Kolkata Police to meet state BJP representatives and inform it about the outcome on a proposed public meeting by the party's President Amit Shah on November 30, for which the police allegedly did not give permission.

Hearing a petition by the state BJP alleging that the city police had not given permission for holding the public meeting at Esplanade in the city, Justice Debangshu Basak directed the police commissioner to meet the party's representatives on November 20 and inform the court about its outcome the next day.

The state counsel submitted that the Kolkata Police authorities have not received any application for the meeting which BJP wants to hold in front of Victoria House at Esplanade in the heart of the city.

The November 30 meeting is scheduled to be addressed by Shah.

Alleging discrimination, the petition claimed that though Trinamool Congress had been allowed to hold a meeting there on July 21, BJP was being denied the permission.
