Well-known poet and lyricist S Ramasan Nair has been selected for this year's "Amritakeerthi Puraskaram", set up by the Amritanandamayi Mutt.
The award, comprising a purse of Rs 1,23,456, a statuette of Vagdevi, the goddess of learning, and citation, would be presented to Nair on September 27 during the birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi Devei, a release from the Amrita Mutt said.
Nair was chosen for the award by a four-member jury headed by Swami Amritaswarupanandapuri.

The jury noted that Nair's poems stood out for their philosophical undertones and lyrical touch.
Hailing from Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, Nair has several collections of poems to his credit and also translated into Malayalam Tamil classics like "Silappadikaram" and "Tirukkural".
