Army pays homage to Naga soldier killed in militant attack

Army today paid homage to the jawan who died in an attack by militants yesterday in Akhnoor sector, with a gun salute and laying of wreaths here.
Wreaths were placed on the mortal remains of late Naik Mongchon P by the General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps, General Officer Commanding Crossed Swords Division, Major General A K Dhar and other officers.
Mongchon was killed in the exchange of fire between infiltrating militants along the Line of Control in Pallanwala sector of Akhnoor in Jammu district yesterday.

He was a resident of Aniangan village in Tuensang district of Nagaland and is survived by his mother, a defence spokesman said.
As a mark of respect, "Reversing of Arms" was carried out by the guards followed by playing of "Last Post" by the buglers on the occasion, he said, adding that the ceremony was attended by a large number of officers and jawans.
The General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the spokesman said.
The mortal remains of Mongchon will be taken to his native village in Nagaland where his last rites will be performed with full military honours.
